Require Grounded Plugs on All Electrical Equipment

Recently Universal Home Experts shared an important home safety message, ‘Don’t Break a Ground by Universal Wiring.’ We would like to provide more information on that topic.

Many people are not aware of the dangers associated with ungrounded equipment such as appliances. Removing or breaking off the electrical ground pin is an extremely dangerous idea no matter the situation.

The danger of electrical shock increases when a plug is a two-prong unpolarized type. If the plug is inserted backwards, the appliance can become very hot electrically. The same problem can occur if the receptacle is wired backwards or if the appliance manufacturer does not follow the same guidelines. Always make sure the ripple side of the appliance cord is connected to the wider side of the receptacle. This will help eliminate potentially dangerous power shocks.
