Electrical Grounding

Recently Universal Home Experts shared an important home safety message, ‘Don’t Break a Ground by Universal Wiring.’ We would like to provide more information on that topic.

Electrical grounding is simply the connecting of electrical equipment and wiring systems to the earth by a wire or other conductor. The primary purpose of this connection is to help reduce the risk of serious electrical shock from a leaking power current.

In most homes, the wiring system is grounded to a metal pipe that extends under your home. Appliances are grounded quite differently. An appliance designed to be grounded is equipped with a three-prong cord, and must be plugged into a matching three-prong outlet. Removing or bending the third prong to fit into a two-prong outlet is extremely dangerous. This can result in serious electrical shock.
